Since it’s more of a “handheld computer,” as Walt describes it, its success is naturally tied to the iTunes App Store and the embrace of the software development community. Here’s their conversation:

I’ll have a full, detailed review of the new 3G iPhone in a few weeks, but here are some first impressions based on Apple’s announcement today. Biggest pluses: speed, price and third-party programs. Biggest minuses: still locked to one carrier, missing features and wimpy camera.
Only a month or so after Apple announced its MacBook Air laptop, which it calls the world’s thinnest laptop, Lenovo is about to spring its own super-skinny machine: the ThinkPad X300. Although he tells MarketWatch’s Stacey Delo in this video that “he’s professionally not allowed to be wowed,” Walt Mossberg offers his first impressions of a number of new Apple products being unveiled this week at Macworld Conference and Expo in San Francisco, among them the MacBook Air–which, he cautions, he has not had the chance to put through its paces yet for reviewing purposes.
